In the Company of Writers features Ken Chamlee and Bruce Spang

North Carolina Network and The Brandy Bar + Cocktails present Ken Chamlee and Bruce Spang as next in their series “In the Company of Writers.” The program offers a series of personal and conversational dialogues featuring guest writers/poets followed by an open mic forum. These inspirational gatherings will elucidate and entertain those attending. The guest author speaks from 7-8 PM with an open mic from 8 -9 PM. The Chicago blues music of “Hollywood Johnny Cosgrove” (accompanied by Charlie Wilkinson) welcomes you, continues during intermission, and closes the evening. Kenneth Chamlee won the 2024 Western Heritage Poetry Award for The Best Material for the Artist in the World (Stephen F. Austin State University Press, 2023), a poetic biography of 19th-century American landscape painter Albert Bierstadt. Ken is also the author of If Not These Things (Kelsay Books, 2022), and his poems have appeared in The North Carolina Literary Review, Tar River Poetry, Cold Mountain Review, Pinesong, Kakalak, and in two contest-winning chapbooks, Absolute Faith (ByLine Press) and Logic of the Lost (Longleaf Press). Ken is an Emeritus Professor of English at Brevard College in North Carolina and holds a Ph.D. from the University of North Carolina-Greensboro. Learn more at www.kennethchamlee.com.

Bruce Spang, former Poet Laureate of Portland, ME, recently published his sixth book of poems, All You’ll Derive: A Caregiver’s Journey. He’s also authored three novels, including The River Crossed due out this fall (Wisdom House Press). His poetry collections include It Goes Like This, To the Promised Land Grocery and Boy at the Screen Door (Moon Pie Press), along with two chapbooks. His work has been published in Connecticut River Review, Puckerbrush Review, and Red Rover Magazine, among others. Poetry editor of the Smoky Blue Literary and Arts Magazine, Bruce teaches fiction and poetry courses at Great Smokies Writing Program.
