December 1 @ 4:06 am

JOIN US for an opening celebration of Nina Kawar’s first solo show, Journey Home. We’ll be hosting an opening reception and Nina will give an artist’s talk at 6pm.

What would this world look like if we as a collective and individual were to understand the depths of ourselves; physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually? An awareness of who we are, where we come from and where our heart desires to go. To live a life of authenticity, rooted in love. This consciousness takes time, work, acceptance, and patience. A process that does not happen overnight, but rather a myriad of experiences throughout a lifetime; and a devotion to this reflection. A commitment to love, comprehend and accept ourselves first, so that we are able to more fully love and care for one another, and this planet. The human condition is a lifelong journey of exploration, lessons, experimentation, play, joy, pain and heartache. An ebb and flow that allows us the opportunity to witness, embrace and change the patterns that are no longer serving us. Just as in nature, there is always a beginning and an end. An ever-evolving process of destruction and renewal that exists in all of us. Whether it be the roots of a tree, the mycelium beneath our feet, or the human species; we are designed to grow, evolve and share in this connection and the endless beauty within all of creation.

“Journey Home” is a collection of work throughout my time here in the Blue Ridge Mountains that embodies this evolution of coming home to myself and a deep reflection of this process. These past seven years, while often challenging, have been a fruitful and remarkable chapter of personal growth. An awakening to the stillness within and a desire to live from the heart and connect with this beautiful world around us. Within this work I am exemplifying through material, form, color and process, both the literal and metaphorical notion of patterns, change and evolution. An exploration and reflection of the symbiosis within the human condition, nature and the process of coming home.

Nina Kawar is a sculptor whose creative practice explores and aims to push the boundaries of porcelain through the process of carving and delicate forms. The elusive and often fragile sculptures derive from an intrigue with the human condition and healing. Many of her influences stem from psychology, biology, and spirituality.

Born and raised in a Palestinian American home in Wisconsin, Nina’s sculptural work explores her multi-cultural lens that parallels her curiosity for patterns, perspectives and consciousness. She started her artistic journey in 2005 at San Diego Community College and received a Bachelor of Fine Arts at University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh in 3D Design in 2011. Finding her passion for porcelain at Clemson University, she received a Masters of Fine Arts in Ceramics in 2014. Currently residing in the Appalachian Mountains, she has established a studio practice in the historical Marshall High Studios in Marshall, NC.

Some of her exhibitions include “Into the Blue: Artist Invitational 2018 at Blue Spiral 1 in Asheville, NC, “Biotic” at H Gallery in Ventura, CA and “The 10th International Ceramics Competition” MINO, Japan. She also received “Best in Show” in the “Baltimore Fine Craft Show” with Palm Beach Show Group in Baltimore, MD.
