Sacred Spaces Presented by Dr. Joe Candillo

November 19, 2022 @ 11:00 am - 3:00 pm

Free

FIND Outdoors invites you to learn about the traditional Native American perspective on land and the environment. In recognition of Native American Heritage month, Joe Candillo, PhD – Tribal Citizen of the Pascua Yaqui Tribe (Federally Recognized Nation) will be available for in-depth exploration and conversations along with a formal presentation on Saturday, November 19, 2022 in Pisgah National Forest.

From 11:00 am – 12:30 pm connect with Dr. Candillo at the Pisgah Visitor Center/Ranger Station located at 1600 Pisgah Highway in Pisgah National Forest for casual conversations and a question and answer session. At 2:00 pm join Dr. Candillo at the Sycamore Flats Pavilion located in Pisgah National Forest for a formal presentation on Sacred Spaces: Traditional Native American Perspective about Land & Environment.

Dr. Candillo will explore traditional Native Americans perspectives pertaining to place, land ownership, animals, plants, human beings, and the use of natural resources by human beings. Explore how these concepts fit into Native American traditional belief systems and how Native American traditional perspectives can today aid in an enlightened ecological-awareness focused on natural conservation and the sustainability of natural places.

This project is supported in part by the North Carolina Humanities, the state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities, www.nchumanities.org.
