Part of Kanuga’s monthly Lunch & Learn series\, “Mystics of the Rhineland” explores the visionaries whose teachings continue to shape Christian spirituality. \nSet on Kanuga’s picturesque 1\,400-acre campus\, the event begins with an optional forest bathing nature walk\, weather permitting\, at 10 a.m. prior to Fields’ presentation\, which begins at 11 a.m. Following the presentation\, guests can enjoy a buffet lunch in Kanuga’s dining hall. \nFields will explore the lives and insights of Hildegard of Bingen\, a 12th-century Benedictine abbess\, composer and healer whose visions revealed the divine presence within all creation; Meister Eckhard\, the 14th-century theologian and preacher who spoke of the “birth of God in the soul” and the deep unity of all beings; and the Benguines\, laywomen who formed vibrant spiritual communities devoted to prayer\, service and inner freedom. Through their writings\, music and mystical insight\, participants will discover themes of creativity\, compassion and the interconnectedness of spirit and world.

DESCRIPTION:Welcome this season of wintering with readings\, an artisans market\, buffet supper\, and guided labyrinth walk. On this\, the shortest day and longest night of the year in the Northern Hemisphere\, gather at Kanuga as music and word create warmth in this seasonal time of fallow and reflection. Through contemplative readings and the music of Chris Rosser\, River Guerguerian and Adam Maalouf\, sacred space is created for healing to begin as we prepare for a restorative new year. Poet\, Mary Ellen Lough joins us this year to share her poetry and tenacious spirit. Each performer will add their unique presence to create a memorable evening for all. \nThe concert will be held in Kanuga’s chapel\, a unique and holy listening space. \nAlso offered is a holiday artisans market featuring regional artists.
