Hemlock Hike at DuPont State Forest

December 12, 2024 @ 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm

Free

Hemlock Restoration Initiative staff will guide an educational hike at DuPont State Recreational Forest. The hike will take participants through a hemlock conservation area that is an active site for integrated pest management which means chemical, biological and silvicultural methods are being used to protect hemlocks from the hemlock woolly adelgid. Hikers will hike through active research plots and will discuss the work that is being done to determine the best ways to protect hemlocks into the future.

The hike is about 3.5 miles total round-trip, and is considered easy to moderate terrain.

Walk along Pitch Pine Trail, Three Lakes Trail, and Conservation Road. Along the way, we will traverse through one of our Hemlock Conservation Areas (HCAs). We will cover the ecological importance of hemlocks in riparian areas, what is threatening them, what is being done about it, and more.

The hike is free, but registration is required by Dec. 11.
