This year, in honor of our nation’s 250th birthday, the theme for our annual event is patriotic. Over the past 30 years our talented artists have created images of Abraham Lincoln, Statue of Liberty, Martin Luther King, Jr. and many other notable American icons as well as historical moments like the planting of our flag on Iwo Jima. It will be up to the artists, no matter what age group they are, whether they want to participate in the themed category. There are so many natural and man-made wonders across our great country such as the Grand Canyon, the Golden Gate Bridge, the Blue Ridge mountains that are distinctly American landmarks from which to choose. This will be a very special day for our country and our town.

‘From Sea to Shining Sea’
“Chalk It Up!” began with 3 children drawing in front of their mother’s store. It has blossomed into one of the most beloved and endearing events that our town has to offer. It is a unique way to experience beautiful downtown Hendersonville, N.C. Every summer, 150 artists of all ages draw for prizes and fun in this great contest designed to promote Hendersonville as “a city with a heart for art”.

Registration begins June 9, 2026
