Raising Cane, The Cherokee and Rivercane – World Premiere

September 19 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Event Series (See All)
$20.00

The World Premiere of Raising Cane, a new film by David Weintraub and the Center for Cultural Preservation, is Saturday, September 19 at 7:00 pm. In addition to music and the film screening, the program will include a discussion with native elders and conservation experts. And a party featuring desserts and drinks to celebrate the Center’s 15th anniversary.

Rivercane covered hundreds of thousands of acres throughout the Southeast for thousands of years. It prevented erosion and mitigated floods and it was a staple of southeast native peoples. Given the almost two year anniversary of the devastation caused by Tropical Storm Helene, its time to re-explore the value of bringing this native plant back. As a environmental guardian and an important source of native artisan crafts.

Advanced registration is required. All tickets are $20 per person for the premiere at the Thomas Auditorium at Blue Ridge Community College. Sponsors get name recognition on all film publicity and discounts on tickets. All tickets are non-refundable unless the event is cancelled.
